OH MY GOD I CAN’T HANDLE THIS PHOTO
He looks like that “why can’t I hold all these limes” guy who was making the rounds of tumblr awhile back.

IS THIS REAL LIFE?
from obstinatrixIn October or November of 1979 Bill (Boggs) was doing his show and William Shatner was going to be his guest… . . The first question was about slash. We were stunned.
Bill, when asked, “What do you think about this trend in fandom, where Kirk and Spock are more than friends?” Bill looked at him, laughed and said, “Well, they’re gay, what do you think?” from hereSO LET ME GET THIS GAY: THIS SCENE WAS JUST AS PLANNED, WASN’T IT, SHATNER?
And this is why Shatner is the fairy godfather of a. slash and b. trolling one’s own fandom.
Favorite Kirk conquest: Spock, actually!
Now no one can ever tell me that Shatner, at least, wasn’t in on it.

A Shatnoy anecdote from a kirkspock post via tat63
from fallynleaf“As far as Bill and Leonard and K/S goes, both actors are very much aware of the fandom. I have a clip where Bill is doing a convention in England and someone asks him about K/S and his response was, ‘Well, I guess you just need to find love wherever you can.’ Also, when he did his first biography ‘Where No Man’, the two women who wrote the book were K/S fans and one day when he was at one of their houses working with them on the book, there were K/S zines laying right on the table in front of him. As far as Leonard is concerned, he has twice actually flipped through K/S zines when given them to autograph at conventions. I was present the second time he did so because it was my bestest K/S buddy Deanna Gray who handed him the zine so he could autograph a story of hers that was published in it. While we were in our hotel room before going to see the guys, she spent about a half an hour paperclipping all the revealing artwork so Leonard wouldn’t be able to see any of it and he spent about 10 seconds removing them all so he could peruse the zine before signing it.”
“He got a fine tan shirt with an emblem on the chest
The interstellar girls all like him the best
Captain of the crew, and he knows kung fu
and he did Joan Collins in 1932.
Really just an actor, and a genius to boot
He never gets the fire when the enemy shoots
So he ends each show looking neat and clean
After staring down the mouth of a doomsday machine
I really like the one where he reads the Constitution
After ending all the fighting in the future revolution!
William Shatner! William Shatner! William Shatner! (William Shatner!)”

STS-133 “Star Trek” Wakeup Call (via ReelNASA)
William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk on the original Star Trek television series, provided a very special message to the crew of space shuttle Discovery during the STS-133 Flight Day 12 wakeup call.
With strains of Alexander Courage’s famous theme song from Star Trek playing, Shatner replaced the original television introduction with, “Space, the final frontier. These have been the voyages of the Space Shuttle Discovery. Her 30 year mission: To seek out new science. To build new outposts. To bring nations together on the final frontier. To boldly go, and do, what no spacecraft has done before.”
Ummmm, awesome!
