I’m not good with reboot fic but this looks pretty entertaining! takes place immediately after the movie, deals with fallout from kirk’s insubordination and how he ends up being a captain anyway, etc.

#also this is why i can’t get behind reboot uhura as a character. she is a Strong Female Character(TM) in the same way that most romantic male leads are Nice Guys(TM). and as someone who is familiar with TOS and nichelle nichols’ uhura (who already kicked ass, but in a less in-yo-face way), you can’t even argue that she’s always been that way. her complete personality makeover was totally deliberate and it seemed like they wanted to make her more palatable to a modern audience just so they can make her the love interest without anyone complaining. …and this is why i don’t ship spock/uhura. not because i ship kirk/spock. i could’ve been down with both if they hadn’t messed it up.

TOS!Uhura had a job and a purpose outside of sex appeal. Nu!Uhura was The Love Interest.

I don’t care how much more AWESUM!1! she got in nu!Trek, or how often they mention her epic skills in everything, her biggest role, her shining moment of awesome (equivalent to Chekov’s “I CAN DO THAT” and Sulu’s fencing) was kissing Spock. They already left out Rand, reduced Chapel to a mere mention, included an original female character (Gaila) only to give Kirk a sex scene, fridged Amanda, forgot about Winona completely after she birthed and named Kirk…

I’m sorry, but if a film made in 2009 is worse regarding feminism than a low-budget sci-fi TV show in the 60’s, there is something wrong.
